During this week's London Tech Week, the UK Home Secretary announced the launch of a new “start-up” visa coming in Spring 2019. This new visa route is being designed following advice from the Migration Advisory Committee and feedback from the tech sector and other stakeholders. Its aim is to attract more talented foreign entrepreneurs to the UK by making the visa process faster and smoother.
Like similar programs in other countries, applicants will be required to have an endorsement from a UK university, approved business sponsor, or startup accelerator.
The announcement of the new visa route was short on specifics, with the Home Office stating that further details will be released “in due course”.
Potential interested entrepreneurs in the tech industry are encouraged to continue to follow Newland Chase's immigration alerts. We will continue to monitor developments of this new visa opportunity and report on details as they are available closer to the Spring 2019 launch.
