UNITED KINGDOM: New Start-Up Visa Announced

June 13, 2018

During this week's London Tech Week, the UK Home Secretary announced the launch of a new “start-up” visa coming in Spring 2019. This new visa route is being designed following advice from the Migration Advisory Committee and feedback from the tech sector and other stakeholders. Its aim is to attract more talented foreign entrepreneurs to the UK by making the visa process faster and smoother.

Like similar programs in other countries, applicants will be required to have an endorsement from a UK university, approved business sponsor, or startup accelerator.

The announcement of the new visa route was short on specifics, with the Home Office stating that further details will be released “in due course”.
