SOUTH AFRICA: Consulates May Have Started Using Unpublished Draft of New Critical Skills List

March 5, 2019

Reports have emerged that some South African overseas missions have begun to reject Critical Skills Visa applications on the grounds that the corporate general manager category no longer exists.

A new, shorter version of the Critical Skills List, with the corporate general manager and business analyst categories removed, was expected to be released in April 2019. These reports suggest that some missions have begun to work from an unpublished draft list, that some key professions have indeed been removed from the new list, and that the chances of Critical Skills Visa applications being rejected have increased.
