AUSTRALIA: No More Priority Processing for Work Visas
Effective 5 September 2018, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has ceased accepting priority processing requests for the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) and Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457).
NETHERLANDS: Cross Border Workers No Longer Limited to 90 Out of 180 Days
Effective immediately, third country nationals resident in another member state (for example Belgium or Germany) who work in the Netherlands with a work permit but return to their country of residence at least once a week (so-called “cross border workers” or “frontier workers”) are no longer limited to 90 days stay in the Netherlands in any 180-day period.
SLOVAKIA: Long Queues for Temporary Residence Permits at Foreign Police Office in Bratislava
The number of non-EU nationals attending the Foreign Police office in Bratislava to submit initial and renewal applications for temporary residence permits (including single permits) has increased significantly in recent weeks, leading to very long queues.
EUROPEAN UNION: Revised Posted Workers Directive Enters into Force
On 9 July 2018, the Official Journal of the European Union (EU) published Directive (EU) 2018/957 of 28 June 2018, amending Directive 96/71/EC concerning the posting of workers in the framework of the provision of services.
SINGAPORE: Company Stamp No Longer Required on Forms
Effective 10 September 2018, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore no longer requires employers to endorse forms using their company stamps.
ARGENTINA: Strike Expected to Affect Public Services
A general strike called by several large trade unions for 24 and 25 September in protest at the government’s economic policy is expected to affect services provided by the National Immigration Office (DNM), the National Civil Registry (RENAPER), the Social Security Agency (ANSES), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Registry of Recidivism (RNR) among others.
PHILIPPINES: No Visa Stickers Available for Temporary Visitors
The Bureau of Immigration has issued a “Note With Recommendation” warning that it has run out of the visa stickers that are usually issued for the extension of temporary visitor or 9(a) visas (“TV Sticker”).
PORTUGAL: EU Directives Will Take Effect 1 October 2018
Decree Law no. 9/2018, published on 11 September 2018 and effective 1 October 2018, implements the latest amendments to the immigration law, which in turn were published on 28 August 2017.
NETHERLANDS: Self-Employed Activities Permitted for Intra-Corporate Transferees
Effective 1 October 2018, third-country nationals working in the Netherlands with an intra-corporate transfer (ICT) permit can perform self-employed activities alongside the main working activities for which their residence permit in the Netherlands has been initially granted, according to a recent decree.
