CANADA: UAE Citizens Visa-Free Starting June 5

May 31, 2018

Effective June 5, citizens of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will no longer require a visa to enter Canada. UAE nationals will be granted entry with only a valid UAE passport and an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). The new visa waiver for UAE citizens will permit stays of up to six months for the purposes of business, tourism, or family visits.

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Implemented in November of 2016, Canada’s Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system is an online pre-screening and travel authorization available for visa-exempt nationals of more than 50 countries arriving in Canada by air travel.

Eligible travellers apply for the eTA online prior to travel at the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website here. The eTA costs CAD $7 and is usually issued electronically within the same business day of application.

Visa-free foreign nationals entering Canada by land and sea crossings do not require an eTA.

Our Advice

UAE national business travellers to Canada will benefit from this visa-waiver and access to the eTA program.

However, UAE nationals are reminded that this visa-waiver does not waive requirements for work permits or study permits when entering Canada for the purposes of employment or study.

UAE nationals travelling to Canada for work are encouraged to contact their Newland Chase immigration specialist for advice on the appropriate immigration requirements.
