BRAZIL: Residence Permit for Property Investment

November 22, 2018

The National Immigration Council has published Normative Resolution 36/2018, which regulates the issuance of a residence permit on the basis of real estate investment in Brazil.

To qualify, the applicant must invest at least one million reals (or up to 30% less in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil), transferred from abroad, in property that is already built or under construction, located in an urban area. The investment may be in more than one property, provided that the total investment in all properties meets the minimum investment threshold.

Residence will be granted for two years initially, after which the holder may apply to renew the residence for up to two years or convert it to an indefinite residence.
